What’s in Her Bag – Singer Songwriter Chanel Campbell

What’s in Her Bag – Singer Songwriter Chanel Campbell

This months What’s in the Bag post is by the beautiful and talented Chanel Campbell.  Chanel is an up and coming country music artist with a single that goes to radio in the spring, a full length album she has just finished and she will be on GAC / CMT all this month and next month as a part of the Waylon Jennings documentary and project she is a part of.  I love running into Chanel, not only to catch up with her, but to see what amazing outfit she is wearing.  I’ve never seen her in anything less than fabulous!

What's in the Bag Chanel Campbell

I got this classic Chanel bag for my 20th birthday.

My parents weren’t sure what to get me so instead of guessing my mum gave me her credit card and told me I could buy one thing. Excited, I headed out to the Bal Harbor shops in Miami where we were on holiday and went straight to the Chanel store!  I’m pretty sure my mum wasn’t expecting such a purchase, but hey!  If you give a girl like me a credit card and no budget you really shouldn’t be too surprised!  Haha, but really she approved and has since tried to steal it many times :)  I pretty much have carried it everyday for the past 4 years and am still completely in love with her (yes her) like she’s brand new.  It doesn’t hurt that the logo happens to be my initials either :)

I have the following things along for the ride:

1. My  Louis Vuitton monogram multicolore wallet that my boyfriend (now fiancé) bought me for our second anniversary.  It’s adorable, just like the man who bought it. It’s filled with receipts, business cards and coins at the moment. I hate coins!

2. La Mer lip balm … I have extremely dry lips and this balm has literally changed my life.

3. My iPhone 4.  I’m addicted, but still not sure how i feel about face time … Who wants to be available for video chatting 24/7?  Scary.

4. Sephora compact mirror which I got with a gift card from a friend.  Really one of the best gifts because I’ve always wanted the mirror but didn’t want to buy a gift card to get it.

5. Check book. I love writing checks, it feels so official and old world.  Plus it gives the illusion I’m not actually spending  money…  Until reality hits and the money vanishes a few days later.  Bummer.

6. I never leave the house without my favorite Creed scent in this beautiful leather atomizer (that was a gift) and signed by Mr. Creed himself.  It’s 1.7 ounces, so it’s perfect for traveling.

7. My Tom Ford Alessandra sunglasses.  They are almost always glued to my face.  Not only are they perfect for keeping out the sun, they hide my makeup less face!  When I’m not working, I like to let my face breath, but that doesn’t mean I want everyone to see my dark circles!

8. YSL lip gloss in ‘pure petal’ #48.  It’s texture is amazing and the scent is so yummy you’ll want to eat it.

9. Ambien:  It was left in my purse from my last trip … I can’t ever sleep on planes, so this is my secret weapon to luxury air time. If you’re knocked out you won’t know how uncomfortable you really are right?  Ha

10. Last but not least… My iPad.  This is really pushing it since my purse isn’t that big, but lately I’ve been taking it everywhere.  I don’t feel right leaving it at home!  So if you see my poor bag bulging that’s why!

The thing I love most about this bag is that it will never go out of style.  It’s timeless!  I can dress it up or down.  Plus the size has really helped me keep things organized.  It’s too compact to let it get to messy.  Another great thing is if a seam comes lose or a strap breaks just take it into your nearest Chanel store and they will fix it for you free of charge!

Chanel CampbellThanks Chanel!!!!!

What’s in the Bag – Abby White Plachy of Her Nashville & Prairie*Go*Round

This month we asked Abby White Plachy, Editor-in-Chief of Her Nashville & the woman behind super cool hand-knits, Prairie*Go*Round, to show us the contents of her handbag.  Mizzie and I are huge fans of Abby’s hats, gloves and scarves.  My black & cream stripe arm warmers are my favorite Prairie*Go*Round purchase and I’m currently coveting the Down the Rabbit Hole Scarflette.

Now, let’s see what in Abby’s bag….

When Carla asked me to contribute for “What’s in the Bag,” I panicked.  My purse is a total disaster area.  Recently, I reached for a lip gloss and found a piece of stale popcorn of unknown origin.  Gross, right? However, since I’d recently shelved my beloved giant white Calvin Klein purse in favor of this brown leather bag from Banana Republic, I’d had the opportunity to clean things out a bit, which kind of felt like scraping out the bottom of the ocean.  Items that I removed include the following:

–a toy mouse (no, I don’t have a cat … it’s a long story)
–dry shampoo (I actually had two kinds in there, and one made a mess, so now one is in my desk drawer, and one is in my car)
–yarn
–scissors (just a bad idea, in your purse)
–V8
–nail polish and nail polish remover (see above, under “scissors”)

How bad could it be?  I dumped my purse out (I tried to do it in an orderly fashion, but my friend Tabitha said I should just dump the whole thing out) and got started.

In the upper right corner of this photo, you’ll see my massive make-up bag.  I am a make-up whore.  I don’t have an official count, but I’m confident that there are at least seven or eight different eyeliners rolling around in there, and probably twice as many lip products.  You just never know when you might need your matte red lipstick, or, alternately, your sparkly, nude beige gloss.  I like to be prepared, which is why the bag is stuffed with concealers, a few perfume options, mascara, blotting papers, highlighter, moisturizer, Q-tips, pens, etc.  This bag was also cleaned out recently; I got rid of some summer stuff like blotting paper and sunscreen wipes.  Yes, I know we still need those in the winter, but give me a break.  I’d rather have seven options of pinky biege lip gloss on hand.

Just to the left, below the make-up bag, another assortment of lip glosses is scattered, including a sweet pink one from Therapy Systems, the magical Benefit Benetint lip balm (OMG the loveliest stuff ever), a NARS nude gloss, a minty Philosophy gloss, the always flattering Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick (this has been my BFF since eight grade), and another one that I can’t identify offhand, which probably means that it needs to go bye-bye.

I also see some eyedrops in that pile, my favorite Prairie*Go*Round glovelettes, an iPod shuffle from the Mesozoic Era, and a broken hairbrush that I tote around for some reason (It’s like 99 cents for one of those brushes. You’d think I could buy a new one, especially since it’s next to a $20 lip gloss).  Anyway, it’s near my checkbook, because I am 83 years old and still carry a checkbook around, some Redken hair wax, a bag of clear hair rubber bands and blonde bobby pins (must-haves), and a pack of green Stride, which is the best gum for long runs, in case you’re wondering.  You may also notice that there are not one, but TWO brownies (one is in foil) in my purse right now, which is why I’m big on long runs.  Also, a granola bar that has been in there for an undetermined amount of time.  I’d still eat it.

I’m obsessed with scents.  I put perfume on all day, so if you hate that stuff, we’re probably not going to be friends.  I spy two Lush solid perfumes—one in Lust, and one in Vanillary—and a Smoked Amber perfume from Anthropologie.  It makes you smell like you are in a fire, but in that totally sexy way.  Ooh!  And there’s my custom perfume from Body Chemistri in Chicago–it’s a one-of-a-kind blend of my favorite scents: Lily of the Valley, Amber, Vanilla, Smoke and Musk. I lovelovelove it. I think I see my tiny Lollia hand creme under that rubble, too.  And nearby is the one thing I will NEVER go anywhere without … not my wallet (also pictured, and it is falling apart because I put weird things like paint samples and things I tear out of magazines in my wallet), not my phone (which looks like it needs to be disinfected from this angle … I swear my phone is usually not that funky), but my ROSEBUD SALVE.  Obsessed.  It’s like the MacGyver of product, but I favor it for—what else??—lip gloss. And eyebrow tamer. You can also use it for diaper rash, if you or someone you love has a problem with that.

There are at least two anti-bac products rolling around in my purse, including a candy corn option and another kind that won’t make you smell like a five-year-old.  I also keep a lot of band-aids on hand, which is ironic, because I’m allergic to band-aids (for real. They give me a rash, except for on my feet. Weird, right?), but I always seem to find myself in situations in which someone really needs a band-aid, so I get to be the hero!!

I see a pile of business cards—some for Her Nashville, some for Prairie*Go*Round, and one fake business card that my mom and stepdad use when they are on vacation because they like to mess with people—and my keys (complete with multiple swipe cards, most of which have been chewed on by my giant pet rabbit).  I also possess an embarrassingly large pile of rewards cards for everything from Sweet CeCe’s to Bliss Yarns in Brentwood.  Oh, and there’s my water bill … I should probably pay that.

Thank you for reading. I sincerely hope your purse—and your life—is more in order than mine!

Thanks Abby!  You’ve made me feel a lot better about the contents of my bag:)

Prairie*Go*Round scarves, gloves and hats make fantastic gifts and you can find them at Abby’s Etsy shop and locally at Stella faves MADE, Ivey and Nashville Clothing Company.

What’s in the Bag – Sierra Jacobson of the Lookbook

Over the past few month’s Mizzie and I have gotten to know Sierra Jacobson, the super stylish Editor of The Lookbook.  Sierra always looks fabulous and she’s not afraid to tote around a big bag (definitely a woman after our own hearts).  We finally had to ask her what she had in that gorgeous Louis bag.

This beloved Louis Vuitton Galliera bag was given to me as a graduation gift from my nana a few years ago. As you can see by the worn leather, it has been truly loved.

Though I try to clean my bag out to lighten the load, I have a few things that seem to always sneak their way back in.

1. My baby, The Lookbook
2. My Love & Flak bullet necklace – serves as both a fashion statement and a form of protection
3. My myAgenda agenda which I would be lost without
4. Two pairs of sunglasses – an easy way to change my ensemble during the day

5. Business cards & business card holder. I found this old cigarette case at a vintage store in Franklin and I decided to turn it into my trustee card holder
6. Lipstick options – Just Bitten by Revlon, gloss by Revlon and Camélia by Chanel
7. Wallet given to me for my 21st birthday
8. Sweet CeCe’s card – I am almost to a free one!
9. Starbucks card because I am a certified coffee addict
10. iPhone. Yes, I am also addicted to this
11. Keys – Nashville key adornment with my name across that I found at the airport when I first moved here, and Wilson key chain given to me by my husband in college
12. Two fortunes – “Opportunities surround you if you know where to look,” and “Your ability to juggle many tasks will take you far.”

Thanks Sierra!  Mizzie and I are very excited to be collaborating with Sierra and The Lookbook on several upcoming projects.  Stay tuned…

What’s in the Bag – Alexis Foreman of The Brighton Style Memos

For our What’s in the Bag post this month, we are featuring Alexis Foreman of The Brighton Style Memos.  I met Alexis on a Dove Real Beauty photo shoot in London. She is a fantastic graphic designer, blogger, mother of three boys and a perfect model for the Dove Real Beauty  campaign.  She brought such life and joy to the shoot and her smile literally lights up a room. She was so much fun to work with that I thought she would be perfect for our What’s in the Bag post. Plus, I was really curious to see what a fashionista, mother of three would keep in her everyday bag.

Since my best friend gave me this Alphabet bag on my 30th, it’s been a faithful friend. Not that weather proof, or easy to find anything in, but always the bag that seems to go with whatever I may choose to wear in the morning.

Some items in my bag vary and some never leave. Here is what currently resides…

1) A very scratched iPhone.
2) My Booth & Bruce specs. They are a Brighton label which make them especially good.
3) Well worn Angel Jackson snakeskin purse.
4) Subscription Elle magazine. I keep the recent ones close and read when I get the chance.
5) My keys. Pokemon keyring was give to me by one of my sons.
6) Moleskin diary. I’m lost without it!
7) Round framed sunglasses from Topshop.
8) A picture that my eldest son drew for me. It’s a bat.
9) Nurofen!
10) Always have a Mac lippy with me. Current favourite ‘Diva’.

The Dove Real Beauty campaign that Alexis and I worked on will be out in January so we will make sure and do a feature so you guys can see our work. We might even tell you what Alexis was talking about to the photographer while she was being photographed.  Said with a smirk and my little finger positioned delicately next to the smirk, Dr. Evil style.

What’s in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Bag? Back to School Edition

For this month’s What’s in the Bag, Mizzie and I decided to go back to school…well, we thought we’d check in with two of our favorite collegiates to see what they’re carrying in their bags this season.  Our first post comes from Kate Gombach, an art history major at DePaul University in Chicago and a budding stylist.  Here’s what’s inside her super cute Marc Jacobs bag.
I bought this bag a few weeks ago as a birthday present to myself. I actually went to the mall with the intent of buying a completely different bag, but when I saw this incredibly fabulous, incredibly green Marc by Marc Jacobs (‘Classic Q – Hillier’ Hobopurse on the sale table I fell in love!

Ok I guess I might as well admit it, I am what some might call obsessed with Marc Jacobs, hence the two Marc bags (I left the sunglasses out of this post for fear of overkill). Inside the makeup bag I have a mini assortment of lip balms because even though I am a makeup junkie (including lipsticks) I wear hardly any makeup and when I wear anything on my lips, balms are the only things I can stand for extended periods of time.

I am also obsessed with my Droid Incredible. I’ve only had it for a few weeks and it has already become my life (my favorite app is the steamy window!).  I am also in love with my five-year-old iPod video. I am dreading the day it dies and I finally have to breakdown and buy a new on.

Yes this is all trash. I got a new car at the beginning of the summer. The car was so new and clean when I got it I couldn’t stand the thought of letting it get dirty! So instead of throwing parking passes, concert tickets, straw wrappers and receipts on the floor, I throw all of them in my purse.

For such a large key chain you would think I would have more actual keys, but everything here has such sentimental value I can’t stand to get rid of any of it! The DePaul lanyard is great because it’s always the first thing I find when looking for my keys in my purse. As you can see by the car key and Honda keychain, I do drive a Honda (along with every other member of my family, literally). The hand sanitizer has come in handy many times and since it’s orange sapphire scented, it smells great too! The “K” keychain was a 16th birthday present from my mom (Ironically the bottle opener was also given to me by my mother when I was 16. It’s from my brother’s alma mater). The “I love Culver summer schools and camps” flashlight is very special to me because I do indeed love Culver. The strangest keychain is probably the retro-looking picture of the cat in the heart. My friend gave this to me because of my dislike of animals. It cracks me up every time I look at it :)

These are probably the most random things in my purse, but also the most useful. My friends always laugh at me when they see that I carry a lint roller, but it really does come in handy! No one wants to walk around in a black shirt covered in fuzz! The oil wipes are seriously a life savor when you get that mid-afternoon shine (plus they don’t take off your makeup!) Hand lotion is always good especially in the colder months (and especially when it’s black amethyst, my current favorite bath and body works scent).  The band-aid holder I threw in after my friend cut himself one day and didn’t have any band-aids in his house (typical boy). The flash drives (which I just realized are all blue?) are incredibly handy for schoolwork and whenever I am lucky enough to style a photo shoot and get a copy of the photos for my portfolio :)

Thanks Kate!  We’re loving that bag!  Next week we’ll get to peak inside Kerri Morabika’s bag.  Stay tuned…

What’s in the Ransom + Scout Bag? – Stephanie Van Hoesen of Nest Interiors

For this month’s What’s in the Bag? post, Mizzie and I asked our good friend and owner of the fabulous Nest Interiors, Stephanie Van Hoesen, to let us in on what she keeps in that awesome bag of hers….

Ransom + Scout’s Apollo Bag:  Ransom + Scout’s award-winning signature bag.  I love its “decidedly architectural shape and design.”  And I love that people, men and women, notice it too.  They stop me on the street, in the grocery, everywhere really, and ask “Where did you get that bag?!  I’ve never seen such a bag!”
It’s a work of art on your shoulder.

This is definitely a bag meant to be worn with intention.  It’s not a flippant bag you throw on with just anything.  It has a lot of personality.  My favorite outfit to wear with it is a fitted black sweater, a great pair of jeans and some fabulous boots.
Definitely my Fall/Winter bag.

Buyers Guide Supplement:  From the lovely Atlanta Home Furnishings and Gift Market at AmericasMart.  This is one of many markets that I attend as a buyer for Nest Interiors.  This little puppy is a supplement to the 5lb. book they give you when you attend market.  I rarely look at the supplement, and yet, it somehow found its way into my bag and has remained there for two months.  What can I say, I’m lazy.  :)

Check from Edgehill Cafe to Nest Interiors:  Payment for all the fabulous new furnishings and renovations.

Business Cards:  At the moment, I have three in my bag, but that’s because I dumped out twenty the week before.  I have two rolodex’s of business cards and an “I have no idea who this is” box of business cards!
- San Lorenzo:  Italian-made leather bags and desktop accessories
- Avenue Bank:  The best bank in Nashville.  Concierge banking is awesome!
- Winn Elliot, owner of Brite Revolution and Edgehill Cafe:  Winn is taking over Edgehill Village and using Nest to furnish all his spaces.  I have him on speed dial and a business card, just in case ;)

Check Book:  Yes, I still use checks!  I hate paying bills online or over the phone!  I’m a paper and pen sorta gal.

Aderall Bag:  I’m A.D.D. and I own my own business.  How else would I function?!  This is my back-up in case I forget to take my daily does at home.  This happens often.

Calligraphy Pen, Silver Paint Pen and Ink Pen:  I love pens!  Pens of all sorts!  Like I said, I’m a pen and paper sorta gal.
Target Gift Card:  Oh Target, how I love thee!  Owning your own boutique limits shopping during the week.  Everything is closed by the time I leave except…except for Target.  It’s become my favorite late night adventure. :)

Sunglasses from whats-in-store:  Lost my favorite designer sunglasses the day before the Nashville Brewer’s Fest.  Thank goodness for whats-in-store and their $10 glasses!

Back-up Cosmetics:  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left the house without half my make-up on!  I always keep a back-up of my make-up with me at all times.
-Sonia Kaschuk Eye Shadows (love smokey grays)
-Almay Waterproof Mascara
-Sonia Kashuk lip gloss/lipstick
-MAC and Sonia Kashuk eye-shadow brush
- MAC eye-shadow (Shroom, the best color ever!)

Shout Wipes:  What can I say…I make messes.

Bausch & Lomb Eye Allergy eye drops:  A daily must!  Since I moved to Tennessee, I have year round allergies.  This tiny bottle is my life-saver!

Mango Lip Butter by Honey House:  Love this stuff!  Sold at N2skin in Edgehill Village.

Breath mints:  …enough said.

Liz Claiborne Wallet:  I love the color and love the million and one compartments in this wallet.

Basic Guide to the HTC Evo 4G phone:  Do you have an Evo?  Have you tried to use the Evo?  It’s a Google phone…think about it…a “Google” phone.  There is a million, yes a million, things to know and do on this phone!  It’s a rockstar of a phone, but it requires you to go to school first before using it.  :)
*HTC Evo Phone is usually in my bag at all times, unless I am on it, which was the case when this photo was taken.
Thanks Stephanie for sharing your bag with us!  Visit Nest Interiors in Edgehill Village to see all the amazing home furnishings and accessories Stephanie has to make your house fabulous this Fall.  And mark your calendars for our Girls DIY Day Out at Nest on September 18 from 2-5pm.  More info coming soon!
