Festival Style: Top 15 Favorite Pieces for Festival Season

Festival Style: Top 15 Favorite Pieces for Festival Season

With Coachella past us and Hangout Music Festival starting tomorrow, the Summer concert season is about to be in full swing. Marcia is heading to Hangout this weekend and I’m heading to Lollapalooza in August, and I’m sure one of us will make it to Bonnaroo in June. That means there will be a lot of festival style coming to you this Summer. Here are my Top 15 favorite pieces for the season. Regardless of whether you’re heading to a music festival or not, these are just great pieces to get your through a hot summer. The maxi dresses you can dress up or down making them great travel pieces, and nothing screams festival style more than a good tattered band tee and cut-off shorts. Right?! Find more options on the Festival Shop page.

I love a good oversized sweatshirt like this star one from Current Elliott. It’s a perfect layering piece. I love to pair sweatshirts with denim cut-offs, skinny jeans or shorts like these J Brand cargos.

Today is Mother’s Day!

I hope you all enjoy some precious time with those special women in your life. The influence of a mother is truly life changing. Although, I lost my own mother at a very young age, I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by some incredibly inspiring and supportive female role models throughout my journey thus far. Literally, I wouldn’t be a fraction of the person I am today without their guidance and love. With that being said, the definition of “Mother” many times doesn’t cross the threshold of the human species. Why is that?

In lieu of showcasing some great Mother’s Day gift item or dinner suggestions, I wanted to share a bit of information with you that may change your mind on what you put into your cart next. However, you just have to snatch up some of these Mother’s Day Glazed Sugar Cookies from vegan bakery & cafe, Khan’s Desserts!

Kahn's Mom Cookies

My friends over at Mercy For Animals make a great point here:

Did you know?

Momma Hen and her chicksHens use their wings to protect their babies.

Mom and baby cowCows are pregnant for nine months, just like humans.

Momma pig and her pigletAnd mother pigs sing to their young while nursing.

Check out their informative yet inspirational “Celebrating All Mothers on Mother’s Day” blog post here. Enjoy the rest of your day and remember that you have the power to empower.

This one is for you, Diane K. Masulla.

Giveaway: Win an Elaine Turner Clutch

I had a blast the other week hosting the Elaine Turner Steeplechase Primp and Prep Party with Therapy Systems, Woodhouse Day Spa and Pink Mullet Salon. We sipped, we shopped and we basically conquered our spring accessory style that night.

I came home with this fabulous blue stripe raffia hat that I’ll be wearing to Steeplechase in Nashville this weekend.

How To Wear It: Steeplechase Style

How To Wear It: Steeplechase Style

If you live in Nashville, then you know that Saturday is Steeplechase. Like the Kentucky Derby, Steeplechase is all about the hat. Hopefully, you’ve got that covered already. I found my hat at Elaine Turner during the Steeplechase Primp & Prep event I hosted. I can’t wait to wear this blue stripe raffia hat all summer. Since my hat is basically solid, I’m feeling like I’ll probably go with a print for my dress. Am I the only person who doesn’t know what she’s wearing yet? I’ll admit, I don’t particularly like to play by the rules when it comes to these types of events, so I’ll probably pull something together Saturday morning based on the weather. What I’m leaning toward though is a comfortable print maxi dress paired with a denim vest or jacket. I love a good maxi, but I know they’re not for everyone. If you’re petite, they can swallow you up, so consider a shift dress or something with a little more fit and flare. Comfort is key for a long, and potentially hot, day in the sun. Leave the super fitted dresses at home.

I’ll pair my maxi dress with a pair of flat sandals (or a wedge if I’m feeling adventurous), and  my Hunter wellies will definitely be close by. I basically don’t leave home without them this time of year.

What is your wardrobe plan for the day? I want to know! Take a picture of yourself on Saturday and hashtag it #Stellachase. I’ll feature the looks you post on a follow up blog next week.

Have fun at the races!

Shop Like You Give a Damn: Support Juice Nashville’s Efforts to Open Their Retail Store

Juice Nashville TruckI have to admit when I first started juicing in the Fall of 2011, my instinct leaned toward this just being another trendy fad that I succumbed too. And, YES I still cringe at many of the ill-fated trends that I partook in through the years…hello Skrillex hair. I’m still in the process of growing that one out. Back to the basics. Juice!

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead

My journey began when I watched Joe Cross’s documentary Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, which motivated me to purchase my very own snazzy Breville juicer, and embark publicly on a 15 Day Juice Fast. I ended up lasting 10 days as my body was lean, mean, and quite honestly…ready for a little hummus!

Juice Nashville Logo

The results from this fast have resulted in my implementing juicing into my lifestyle on a regular basis. I rely on Juice Nashville to help me stay healthy during my hectic schedule. I have been lucky enough to work with and become friends with founder Stephanie Waring through this process. When she called me up to let me know she was ready to proceed with opening a retail location for her growing business, I was committed to help make that happen. As of right now, Juice can be pre-ordered for pick-up or delivery, and you may also pick up bottles at the surrounding Farmers’ Markets. The opening of a retail location would not only make her incredible juice more accessible to me, but to others in the community.

Juice Nashville Fruits Veg

Just a few short weeks ago, Stephanie and her team announced plans to open a Juice Nashville shop, the brick & mortar version of the first & only cold-pressed juicery in Tennessee. The funds raised through their Kickstarter campaign are crucial in helping cover the expenses of the build-out and launch of this venture. Juice’s goal is to raise $15,000 through this Kickstarter campaign. BUT, as you may or may not know, Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” model. If we don’t help them raise the complete amount by next Sunday, May 12 at 8:18am, Juice Nashville will receive $0, zero, zilch, nada. Even as little as $10 will help make a difference. And if you pledge $20 or more, you’ll get some tasty rewards too!

We are asking for your help! As of today, Juice just has a little over $3000 left to raise! Please consider making a contribution and share this campaign through your own social circles. Let’s band together to help support an independently owned business that is contributing the gift of health back to their community.
